CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
Signed a seven-year contract extension on 8/21/01 that will keep him in an Eagles uniform through 2007…Earned his first career Pro Bowl berth following the 2001 season in which he connected on 26 of 31 FGAs and tied for 5th in the NFL in scoring with 115 points. Also earned first-team all-NFL honors from the AP, Sports Illustrated, and The Sporting News…Has a 95% (38-40) career success rate in field goals inside 40 yards…Nailed game-winning, 35-yd. FG with :07 remaining in week 16 of 2001 vs. NYG as the Eagles claimed their first NFC East Division title since 1988…In his first full year as a NFL kicker in 2000, made his first 12 field goals of the season (13 dating back to 1999) to set a team record. He also ranked 5th in the NFL in points (121) to break the team record of 116 set by Paul McFadden in 1984…Selected as the Eagles special teams MVP and as the first alternate to the NFC Pro Bowl squad in 2000 (behind the Bucs Martin Gramatica)…Nailed 3 game-winning field goals in November, 2000 to earn NFC Special Teams POM honors.

Finished his four-year career at Louisville ranked 2nd on the school’s all-time scoring list with 219 points, including a school-record 36 field goals. As a junior, kicked a career-long 51-yd. FG vs. Texas A&M.

PERSONAL:
He and his wife, Erika, reside in Louisville, KY, during the offseason. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Luke on 4/8/02…His major charity priority is "Kicks For Kids," a program that and helps at-risk children in the Philadelphia area pursue their dreams. Akers also sponsors kicking camps in Philadelphia and Louisville during the summer and donates all the proceeds to "Kicks For Kids.”…He and Erika co-chair the Philadelphia chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis annual “Evening Out With the Eagles”…Is a fan of NASCAR and spent time in the pits during the 2002 MBNA Platinum 400 race in Dover, DE…Served, along with his wife and the Runyan family, as the honorary chairperson for the “Cystic Fibrosis Evening with the Eagles”…Also visits various Philadelphia-area children’s hospitals each week during the season and buys and delivers Thanksgiving baskets for needy families in Philadelphia as part of his “Kicks For Kids” charity…Hosted the extra “Extra Effort Luncheon” to honor those who have gone above and beyond to help the community.
